Convention/Treaty

A convention, or treaty, is one of the binding instruments of international law. When states or international organizations that are subject to international law ratify an agreement, this creates legal binding effects, which is obliges them to respect, protect and fulfill the provisions of this treaty, at national-level national laws, legislations and practices.

This international binding agreement has no statutory limit, even in the case of the succession of states; the international obligations of the previous state devolve to the new state.

All forms of the international binding agreements (Convention/treaty/agreement) are subject to the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties (VCLT) 1969.
