Go Green Sudan — For a Better Living Environment

An Environmental Platform for a Green Community Mindset

In Sudan, trees are being cut down at an accelerating rate to obtain fuel, shelter, and means of survival, posing a long-term threat to environmental balance and to the longer-term well-being of communities. This silent environmental disaster requires urgent attention and integrated action.

A Silent Environmental Disaster

As Sudan enters its fourth year of devastating armed conflict, its natural ecosystems are coming under severe assault. The warring parties have systematically engaged in:

  • Polluting water sources
  • Destroying agricultural land
  • Contaminating soil
  • Poaching wildlife and destroying forests for military gain

Go Green Sudan, a member of the International Habitat Coalition and collaborator with Housing and Land Rights Network, is a pioneering social initiative that seeks to raise environmental awareness across Sudanese society as a whole and residents of urban areas in Sudan, in particular, to guide a shift in mindset toward achieving a green community consciousness. Go Green Sudan’s activities focus on conducting awareness campaigns and advocacy campaigns, followed by the selection of individuals and institutions that have been developed to become active partners. The initiative will continue to support their activities going forward until full, sustainable ownership is transferred to them.

The ultimate goal is for people to become connected, so that, in the end, every member of society feels a sense of belonging and feels that they have embraced a green and sustainable way of thinking.

At a time when Sudan faces unprecedented environmental challenges amid an ongoing civil war, the Go Green Sudan initiative stands at the forefront of efforts to restore environmental balance and empower local communities. Through action and collaboration with our partners, we are committed to bringing about lasting change by reshaping our awareness, action, and advocacy messaging to keep pace with the current conditions of war.

Our Vision: Improved livelihoods and natural environment across Sudan.

Our Mission: Go Green Sudan is committed to promoting environmental awareness through effective community engagement, ensuring that everyone participates in bringing about lasting change.

Go Green Sudan organizes activities along three axes:

Green Connect fosters partnerships, develops eco-maps, organizes events, supports participation, and promotes green platforms;

Green transitions focuses on clean-up campaigns, combating climate change, enhancing urban biodiversity, and promoting carbon sequestration; and

Circular Economy, a stakeholder platform for networking and facilitation that promotes eco-friendly products, eco-branding, and eco-mapping.

Go Green Sudan is also currently engaged in an awareness campaign on deforestation linked to traditional cooking energy among community kitchens toward remedial solutions to local environmental harm.

With greater awareness of environmental hazards and impacts, Go Green Sudan encourages monitoring and reporting violations of the human right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment through its website.

The organization also offers memberships for supporters and like-minded individuals to become part of the Go Green Sudan team.
